CDFS-SOL Features
CDFS-SOL is a new software product from INSTAR that provides accelerated access to files stored on CD-ROM discs.- CDFS-SOL is a high performance ISO-9660 vfs file system for Sparc Solaris 2 systems. CDFS-SOL is ideal for CD-ROM based file servers, both tower and jukebox configurations. CDFS-SOL is easy to use. Simply mount your CD-ROM disc by replacing the hsfs file system selection option with cdfs. CDFS-SOL is 100% compatible with Solaris 2.
- How fast is CDFS-SOL? In-house testing demonstrated that CDFS-SOL can randomly open 500 different files on a single disc in under 1 second. The same test with Solaris's hsfs file system took 55 seconds.
- Included with CDFS-SOL is the CDFS file system, a set of utility programs, on-line man pages, and a users manual.
- Features of CDFS-SOL include:
- Supports ISO-9660 Discs: Including the Rockridge extensions.
- Built-In Directory and File Caching: All file and directory related information is cached. 100% or better increase in performance is possible with CDFS-SOL!
- Optional File Data Caching: A user configurable file defines which files are cached (i.e., cache only index files).
- Supports Multi-Session Discs: Automatically uses the ISO-9660 table of contents in the last recorded session.
- 100% Transparent: No changes required to application programs.
- No Special Drivers Required!: Uses the standard Solaris 2 CD-ROM device driver or any compatible Solaris 2 CD-ROM driver.
