One Fire, Plenty of Damage
An early morning fire erupted in the kitchen of an apartment unit in Feeding Hills, Massachusetts. With 200 townhouse-style units, this complex for elderly and family residents was in trouble. The cause of the fire was an electrical short in a middle unit of a six unit building.
Smoke, heat, soot, water and fire damage was sustained to the first and second floors of the apartment of origin. Water and the odor of smoke were transmitted to the apartments on either side of it. Though the three remaining units didn’t sustain physical damage, all had to be evacuated as the electrical system serving this cluster was fully compromised. All tenants were displaced until electrical service could be restored.
InStar was on the scene ASAP re-establishing power, securing the structure, and getting recovery on its way. Coordinating with an electrical contractor, damaged electrical lines were removed and replaced and the main service lines to all six apartment units were rewired. From that point on, odor control, required demolition and comprehensive structure repairs could be completed. And before you know it, the tenants were happily returning to their homes, much to the relief of the management company.
