ODI-SOL for Solaris 2

    INSTAR Corporation is pleased to announce the release of its latest ODI-SOL software product. ODI-SOL, Version 5, is a high performance Sparc Solaris 2 and SunOS software interface package for WORM, Erasable, and Multi-Function Optical Disk Drives using either WORM or erasable media; 3.5", 5.25", and 12". Supported optical disk drives include: HP 1716T, Sony F531, Olympus MOS525E, IBM 0632, MaxOptix Tahiti III, Panasonic 7030, and many more.

    With ODI-SOL and a single SUN host computer, users can access Gigabytes of information stored on WORM or Erasable optical disks. Users treat the optical disk drive as a standard SUN hard disk drive. ODI-SOL supports all SUN disk drive interfaces, thus allowing all SUN applications transparent access to the optical disk drive. ODI-SOL insures reliable operation of the optical drive, thus avoiding possible data corruption.

    Transparent operation with WORM disks is made possible with ODIS. ODIS is a very high performance, hierarchical, random access, cached WORM file system; up to 300% faster than a UFS files system! The ODIS file system is independent of the host operating system; thus ODIS disks can be interchanged between different host platforms.

    ODI-SOL includes: a device driver, a WORM file system, ODIS; operation and diagnostic utility programs, a GUI, on-line man pages, and a comprehensive user manual. Optionally, users can purchase a developers package that includes C Libraries for building applications that need to closely interact with the optical drive.

    The standard ODI-SOL package, part number ODI-SOL/M2P, has a suggested list price of $595 US ($800 CDN).
