CDFS-SOL for Solaris 2

INSTAR Corporation is pleased to announce the release of a new software product that provides accelerated access to files stored on CD-ROM discs. CDFS-SOL, is a high performance ISO-9660/Rockridge file system for Sparc Solaris 2 computers. CDFS-SOL is ideal for CD-ROM based file servers. CDFS-SOL is easy to use. Simply mount your CD-ROM disc by replacing the hsfs file system selection option with cdfs. CDFS-SOL is 100% compatible with Solaris 2 and supports multi-session discs.

How fast is CDFS-SOL? In-house testing demonstrated that CDFS-SOL can randomly open 500 different files on a single disc in under 1 second. The same test with Solaris’s hsfs file system took 55 seconds. CDFS-SOL maximizes user performance by significantly reducing CD-ROM I/O operations. Using both RAM and magnetic disk, CDFS-SOL caches file and directory structures. Optionally, users can configure CDFS-SOL to cache file data on selected files (i.e., index files).

CDFS-SOL includes: the cdfs file system, utility programs, on-line man pages, and a comprehensive user manual. The standard CDFS-SOL package, part number CDFS-SOL/2P, has a suggested list price of $395 US ($540 CDN).
